Sicker than a dog…
I’m staying home sick today. Not the only one. I couldn’t get to Twitter to report that (Twitter is the new way to call in sick, cause my coworkers and employees are on there). But, this is a good chance to try to catch up on email.
Hotmail’s connector to Outlook isn’t working, though. So, that’s forcing me to compare the Web interfaces of Hotmail to Gmail. Maybe there’s an interesting post to come out of that.
In the meantime, there’s a lot of good new blogs this morning on all sorts of geeky stuff. Again, I keep the noise down and the signal high (I only posted two posts on the Google API stuff, for instance, even though over on TechMeme there’s a lot more).
Stuff posted last night on ScobleShow? Sarah Blow gets interviewed by Maryam. She’s a real geek (is an embedded systems programmer and started Girl Geek Dinners, which are much cooler than my own dinners, I’ve gotta admit). I hate my laugh. I’ve gotta stop laughing so much, it really is annoying. So, here’s the deal. After January 1st everytime I laugh I’ll put $5 in a bucket for charity.
If you’re an entrepreneur and wondering what the basics of dealing with Venture Capitalists are, Philip Baddeley helps entrepreneurs in Cambridge, England, deal with getting funding. We have an interesting talk about VC 101.
Ken Thompson does the BioTeams blog and is an interesting guy (lives in Belfast, Northern Ireland). He studies animal behavior and sees what lessons he can apply to making teams more efficient.
Hope you are enjoying these videos from Europe. A few more are still to come.
I can’t wait to go to LIFT in February. Maryam and I are both going and probably will drop in on Frankfurt, Germany, to see my mom’s sister too so I can see another beer drinking tour with the geeks. Something about beer and geeks that always works. :-)
Anyway, if you want me, use robert@podtech.net instead of my Hotmail address. Gmail is still working with Outlook. Anyone see the irony in that?

Robert, you made my day with the following statement: “I hate my laugh. I’ve gotta stop laughing so much, it really is annoying. So, here’s the deal. After January 1st everytime I laugh I’ll put $5 in a bucket for charity.”
I blogged about this very thing on December 20 at The Technology Free Press (http://www.thetechnologyfreepress.net and The Blogging Journalist (http://www.thebloggingjournalist.com). I noted that I love the interviews you do on the Scoble Show but was annoyed by the constant laughing and joking, which sometimes preventing me from hearing everthing the interviewees said.
The constant laughter made the Sam Sethi breakfast interviews especially annoying.

I hope you go broke then Robert. Laughing will help you live longer!

Robert,
I hope you feel better, I;ve had a nasty cough myself the past few days.

Sorry you are sick. You aren’t using Windows Live Mail Desktop for reading your email?

And when you are not laughing, when you would have been laughing….
…jot down the URL of the site your guest is showing you and post it so we can follow along.

Deannie: I am. I hate it. I hate Gmail too. I’ve spent years getting used to Outlook and now it’s very hard to wean myself off of that.
CyberCoder: good idea. I’m sorry I haven’t done that. It’s very hard to run camera, listen, try to pay attention, try to monitor how the audio is going, AND write stuff down at the same time, though.

That said, Gmail is winning so far, if I’m gonna be forced to use a Web page for my email interface. More on that later.

Robert,
The interview with Philip Baddeley was immensely helpful and educational. Really timely for me since I am in the first stages of my startup and am really searching for information on VC.
I do have one problem though.. which may have been suggested before but I thought I would throw it out anyways. Why don’t you rip the audio from these interviews and offer an audio version as well? Mr. Baddeley really didn’t demo anything that we had to see, so I would just suggest possibly a separate audio feed for interviews where nothing needs to be seen.
133mb is a bit much for my crappy work bandwidth to handle, plus I can’t put it on my shuffle and listen to it on the way home :)

That sucks your sick. If you are really bored, you can always go check out the videos I posted on my new blog. I pick 30 minutes of internet video and slap it together as a “show” by embedding the players in the page. That’s right, in the words of Ze, “I filter so you don’t have to”.
Check it out if you want, you might find it somewhat interesting and a way to take a bit of a break and watch Running Fool stuff.

Space: I’m converting everything to audio only. Sometime in January I’ll have them all up. Sorry for the bandwidth waste in the meantime. Believe me, I gotta fix that on my end too cause PodTech is paying big bucks for my bandwidth.

If you like Outlook, by far the best way is through Exchange. You can get an Exchange mailbox from 1and1.com for around $10/mo. Intermedia (www.intermedia.net) is better if you want to have multiple mailboxes or want better customer service, but the minimum there is $30/mo (includes 3 mailboxes).

Oh and hosted Exchange usually comes with OWA (Outlook Web Access) as a webmail option which isn’t that bad.

Thanks.. I look forward to it.. for now i just download the video slowly whilst i do other things.. then let it play minimized and just listen to it :)

Robert–don’t stop laughing, man! I know some people that don’t laugh… it’s not pretty. ;) If you hate it that much, just edit it out. Reminds me of an SCTV bit from years ago where they edited out some strange sounds from the host during a feminine hygiene product commercial (I think poking fun at a commercial of the time?)… if anyone remembers that….
